UGC-JRF Coaching

The Departmental initiative of UGC-JRF coaching for the PG students, M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars started on 13th August at 4 pm. This is a departmental initiative where Ph.D and M.Phil scholars are extensively involved to train themselves as well as PG students under the supervision of Teachers. It has been made compulsory for the genuine benefit of the aspiring psychologists. The classes are happening on all the 5 days between 4-5 pm.

The Periyar University
The Government of Tamil Nadu established the Periyar University at Salem on 17th September 1997 as per the provisions of Periyar University Act, 1997. The University is named after the Great Social Reformer E.V. Ramasamy affectionately called as “Periyar”. The primary objective of the University is “Holistic Development of the Students”. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is followed from the year 2008-09.There are 18 Departments spread across various disciplines in Arts and Science, offering PG, M.Phil and Ph.D. courses. There are 61 Colleges affiliated to this University as on date.

The Department of Psychology
Understanding the felt need, Periyar University, Salem functionally started the Department of Psychology in the year 2009. The Department has an Associate Professor and three Assistant Professors whose expertise and experiences varies from Counselling Psychology, Cyber Psychology to Organizational Psychology. The Department has all the facilities required in the Teaching, Learning and Researching Process. The Department has its own Library and Lab to cater to the knowledge enhancement and experimentation.

University Research Fellowships
 Limited University Research Fellowships are available for full time Ph.D research scholars.

Eligibility
 For M.Sc Applied Psychology: Any degree from a recognized university.
 For M.Phil in Psychology: A Master’s degree in Psychology from any recognized university with an aggregate of 55% marks.
 For Ph.D. in Psychology: A Master’s/ M.Phil degree in Psychology from any recognized university with an aggregate of 55% marks.
Admission
 For PG and M.Phil Programs: June/ July of every year.
 For Ph.D. Program: Jan/ April/ July/ October of every year

Geographical Location
Salem is known for its Steel Plant, Yercaud Hills and Delicious Mangoes. Bangalore, Coimbatore and Trichy are the major cities that are around Salem. Periyar University is located on the Bangalore Highway from Salem. Its 200kms from Bangalore (Karnataka)and same from Palakkad (Kerala)

Hostel Facilities
 The University provides for accommodation at very reasonable fees in its own hostels, separately for boys and girls. These hostels are within the University Campus.
